2008 Ford Fusion Review

2008 Ford Fusion Review The Fusion is a midsize sedan that debuted in 2006. Featuring a unique three-bar grille, the Fusion aims to be a sporty alternative to the milder-mannered Taurus. The Fusion injects much-needed sex appeal into Ford’s lineup. It was nominated for “North American Car of the Year” in 2006.

The BuyingAdvice Team Says:

The Ford Fusion breathes new life into Ford’s midsize car business. It’s stylish, roomy, and solidly built. While it lacks some of the refinement of its import competitors, as well as a couple of basic safety features, it’s an overall good value.

What’s New For 2008:

Anti-lock brakes and tire-pressure monitoring are now standard. The SEL now features keyless entry. The new Ford Sync system is now available, as is a parking sensor. There is also interior lighting with seven different colors that has been added.

Anti-lock brakes and full side airbags are standard. A parking sensor is optional, as is traction control on the V6 models.

Pros and Cons:

Pros
+ Well-priced
+ Nice handling
+ Optional AWD

Cons
– Missing standard traction control
– Stability control unavailable
– Automatic available but not standard

Head-To-Head Competition:

The Mazda MAZDA3 offers standard traction control for over $600 more, but has less cargo space. The Mitsubishi Lancer GTS is about equal to the Fusion, in both price and features. The Pontiac G6 offers standard traction control and an automatic transmission for the same price.

What Others Are Saying:

“Fusion demonstrates that US automakers can compete; delivering safety, economy, style and value in competition with others whose cost structure is far lower. There are no corners cut, no cheapening of the product. Fusion is a mid-sized sedan that delivers panache to a tight pocketbook.”The Auto Channel

“The 2006 Ford Fusion SEL V-6 shows some modern technology under the hood and feels like a quality car, but it lacks useful or entertaining cabin gadgets that could lessen the boredom of long commutes.”C|Net

“In other words, Ford is serious about kicking its way back into the mid-size-car business.”Automobile Magazine
