2007 GMC Yukon Review
The Yukon is a full-size SUV that debuted in 1992 as a branch off of the Jimmy. The original was a two-door, but a four-door model was introduced in 1995. The two-door version was dropped entirely in 1999. The Yukon is all-new for 2007.
The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
The GMC Yukon is a big improvement over its predecessor. It can easily accommodate large families with a surprising amount of agility. However, the GMC hasn’t really done enough to set the Yukon apart. There are less expensive SUVs that offer more standard safety features and equal it in many other ways. However, for a work vehicle, its spacious cargo capacity and capable towing make it a top choice.
What’s New For 2007:
What is the Predicted Reliability:
J.D. Power gives the Yukon 2 stars for overall mechanical quality, but 3.5 stars for overall design quality. Problems with the last generation include overheating engines, nonfunctional blower motors, rough idling and suspension noise. It was recalled fourteen times for issues such as overheating fuel pump wires, fracturing driveshafts, and cracking brakes. Expect average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for three years or 36,000 miles.
Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:
The Tahoe received perfect government frontal crash test scores. No other data is available. Anti-lock brakes, tire-pressure monitoring, and stability control are standard. Side airbags are optional on all but the SLT and Denali.
Pros and Cons:
Pros
+ Comfortable interior
+ Powerful engine
+ Plenty of towing capacity
Cons
– Third row doesn’t fold flat
– Side airbags not standard
– Mediocre value for the money
Head-To-Head Competition:
The Ford Explorer XLT costs nearly $8,000 less than the base model, and just about matches it in engine power. It also features standard side airbags. The Nissan Pathfinder starts at $1,000 less than the Yukon, but only has a V6. However, it too features standard side airbags, along with a standard moonroof. The Jeep Grand Cherokee starts at around $6,000 less than the Yukon, but only has a V6 at that price. However, it adds side airbags.
What Others Are Saying:
“But this Yukon is a big step forward. It looks better, it runs better, it works better than ever before. I expect to see solo drivers at the wheels of their empty Denalis, talking on their cellphones and driving in the carpool lane for years to come.” – About.com
“So, for those of you who need, or want, a nice, big, sophisticated SUV, and a towing capacity of 7,700-lbs will meet your needs, take a look at these new GM products. We sure loved ours – for a week.” – The Auto Channel
“Big, brawny, and boat-like, the 2007 GMC Yukon is the poor man’s Escalade or the outlet mall-shopper’s dream. Decent interior tech options go someway to redeeming underwhelming performance and poor fuel economy.” – C|Net
