2007 Ford E-Series Van Review

2007 Ford E-Series Van Review The E-Series is a full-size van that has been in production since 1961. Originally known as the Econoline, it defined the van as we know it. By 2001, it was renamed the E-Series, much like Ford’s line of pickup trucks. Capable of towing up to 20,000 pounds, no other cargo van can match it. It has been the best-selling full-size van in America since 1980.

The BuyingAdvice Team Says:

The Ford E-Series Van is the essential cargo van. Dependable, spacious, and able to tow just about anything, it’s the standard by which all other vans are judged. Unfortunately, that standard hasn’t changed much over the years, and the E-Series is getting a bit long in the tooth. Fortunately, it can fit into just about any budget, making it well worth your consideration.

What’s New For 2007:

A electronic throttle and engine oil cooler are now standard. The E-150 now features a beefier driveshaft and a rear stabilizer bar. A heftier alternator and parking sensors are new options.

What is the Predicted Reliability:

J.D. Power gives the E-Series 3 stars for mechanical quality and 4 stars for overall performance and design. The E-Series is well-regarded by professionals for its historical reliability. Out of all the vans on the market, the E-Series has the oldest design. While in many ways, this is a disadvantage, it means you can expect above average reliability due to its mature design. The basic warranty lasts for three years or 36,000 miles.

Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:

Crash test scores are not available. Expect it to hold up well in a crash, due to its large size. Anti-lock brakes come standard.

Pros and Cons:

Pros
+ Plenty of cargo room
+ Mature design
+ Incredible towing power

Cons
– Bare bones safety features
– Ancient design
– Clunky handling

Head-To-Head Competition:

The 2008 Chevrolet Express Cargo Van has far more payload capacity and 50 more hp. The 2008GMC Savana likewise beats the E-Series in horsepower and payload. The Dodge Caravan Cargo Van costs $2,000 less, but only has a V6 with 50 less hp.

What Others Are Saying:

“Large, versatile, and powerful, the Ford E-Series vans can be configured for a wide variety of work duties, though this aging tradesman staple is losing ground to the competition.”Automobile Magazine

“On the other hand, the 2007 Ford Econoline is behind the times when it comes to full sized cargo vans. It drives like a vehicle from years ago, a little ungainly, and is designed as though it hasn’t been paying attention at all to the current trends. You could think of that as independence, if you want, which is admittedly hard to find in the auto industry in this day and age, but all the same, the best thing about the Ford Econoline is that it is a very economic option.”Trustmymechanic.com

“These vans are designed to perform a wide range of functions-from pint-size moving truck to 15-passenger bus. In recent years it’s been updated with vented disc brakes on both axles and Roll Stability Control. There are few choices that offer this level of towing and hauling.”Car and Driver
