2008 BMW M6 Review
The M6 is a high-performance variant of the 6-Series that originally debuted in 1983. The original ended its run in 1989, and it wasn’t until 2005 that the second generation was introduced. With its combination of luxury and performance, the M6 is near the top of BMW’s lineup. A convertible version was introduced last year.
The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
Few would deem the BMW M6 a bargain, but it’s a steal in its class. Less expensive than lower-powered rivals, it doesn’t skimp on features or performance and is backed by a V10 that produces 500hp. Any buyer with ample cash that still appreciates a great value and an impressive ride should take the M6 for a spin.
What’s New For 2008:
What is the Predicted Reliability:

Head-To-Head Competition:
The Audi R8 includes AWD, but costs several thousand more, lacks ABS, navigation, a moonroof, a CD changer and has 80 less hp. The Dodge Viper SRT-10 costs about $14,000 less and has 100 more hp, but lacks side airbags, a moonroof, a CD changer, traction control and navigation. The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class 550 has an automatic transmission, DVD player and better highway mileage, but costs about $4,000 more and has over 100 less hp.
What Others Are Saying:
“The M6 is frightfully complex. It’s loaded with the usual luxury auto comfort, convenience and safety equipment — and with electronic adjustments for everything from the suspension and steering to its seven-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox. That gearbox can be put into six manual shift programs and five automated programs.” – Chicago Sun-Times
“While it’s technically a 2+2 coupe with seating for four occupants, the spatially challenged rear-seat area works better as a padded cargo shelf than it does for seating even the smallest of riders. Many buyers will find the four-door M5 a more practical choice in this regard.” – Forbes
“Although it’s heavy, the M6 can be thrown around a track or a twisting road in the manner of a much smaller car.” – Automobile Magazine
