3 Easy Tips for Saving Money On Gas

Although gas prices are sometimes low and affordable, we can all benefit from saving gas money all the time. As it turns out, it’s easy to find an efficient vehicle or increase the efficiency of the vehicle you already have. Take advantage of these three tips.

Tip 1: Be a Smooth and Mellow Driver

Accelerating and braking abruptly wastes gas, wears out the brakes and increases pollution. By accelerating smoothly and braking slowly and gradually, you can reduce fuel consumption 20% to 30%. Adjusting speed a lot also costs gas. Maintain a constant speed over long distances, especially when you’re on the highway. Use cruise control if you have it. Don’t go over the speed limit. Travel at or below it to maximize efficiency. Slower speeds usually use gas at a slower rate.

Tip 2: Keep the Tires Properly Inflated

Under-inflated tires require more energy to roll, wear faster and build up excess heat, which can cause failures. Check the air pressure of the tires at least once a month. Also check them when extreme changes in temperature occur and before you travel long distances. Keep them at the level recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.

Tip 3: Drive an Efficient Vehicle

Of course, the most efficient vehicles are hybrid and electic vehicles. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are now on the market, as well. If hybrids don’t suit you, look for a diesel vehicle or an efficient gasoline vehicle. Here are some great options (as of May 2016, may vary by region).
