2 Easy Tips To Save Money On Gas
The recent rise of gas prices have been draining car owner's wallets. Urgent solutions are needed to counteract the rising fuel prices.
That's why the BuyingAdvice team has gone out to research to find the best solutions. Lately we've been looking for ways to save money on gas and found that the two easiest and most effective ways to save fuel are: driving calmly and keeping your car well maintained. Here's why.
Tip 1: Be a Smooth and Mellow Driver
Accelerating and braking abruptly waste gas, wear out the brakes and increase pollution. By accelerating smoothly and braking slowly and gradually, you can reduce fuel consumption 20% to 30%.
Varying the speed a lot also wastes gas. Maintain a constant speed over long distances, especially when you're in the highway. A good way to keep your speed steady is by using the cruise control.
And remember: The faster you drive, the more gas you spend. Why? Because speed increases the aerodynamic drag. Driving at 65 mph instead of 75 mph can reduce your fuel consumption between 10% and 15%.
Tip 2: Keep the Tires Properly Inflated
Under-inflated tires require more energy to roll, waste more fuel, are worn faster and build up excess heat, which can cause failures. Check the air pressure of the tires periodically, at least once a month, when they're cold, and before and after long drives.
Keep them at the level recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Fuel consumption will increase from 5% to 10% if you have them 2 pounds below the recommended level or even just one tire under-inflated.
Saving money on gas is not really difficult; it's just a matter of acquiring new driving habits. Our two easy tips prove it, nonetheless the BuyingAdvice team will continue researching and we'll have more tips on how to save money on gas soon.
