2008 Porsche Boxster Review
The Boxster is a compact convertible released in 1996. It is Porsche’s smallest and most affordable model. The high-performance Boxster S debuted in 2000. The second generation debuted in 2005. The original won several awards, including Autocar’s “Best Roadster in the World.”
The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
The Porsche Boxster is a pure sports car, and may just be the best buy in Porsche’s portfolio. It’s handling and braking are second to none, and despite its diminutive size, it actually has space for cargo. While we recommend it for a daily driver, it could very well be the cure for a midlife crisis.

Head-To-Head Competition:
The BMW 3 Series 328i costs a few thousand less and includes air conditioning, but lacks leather. The Lexus SC 430 has a larger V8 with 40 more hp, as well as a CD changer, but costs far more and gets up to 6 fewer miles to the gallon. The Saab 9-3 Aero includes a CD changer and air conditioning, but lacks side airbags, and gets slightly worse gas mileage.
What Others Are Saying:
“Pleasure is always on the sunny side of life. The Boxster is a car conceived to satisfy the craving of the sun worshipper to get away from it all. Top-down driving works because it becomes an event; a kind of short vacation with a luxury factor of ten on a ten-point scale.” – Road & Travel
“The new engine makes the Boxster S (and its Cayman cousin) only marginally slower than a base Carrera, so the 911’s diddy rear seats and snob value are its only advantage. Put another way, there’s no good reason not to buy a Boxster S (kids when you’re caning?) and use the difference to reduce your monthly nut. “ – The Truth About Cars
“For a sports car, the ride is fairly supple over large bumps; the wheels patter over them all without deflecting you from your chosen path. Harshness seems more troubling over the small stuff, where it brings out minor creaks and groans from the body as it flexes.” – Car and Driver
