2008 GMC Yukon Review
The Yukon is a full-size SUV that was introduced in 1992. The second generation debuted in 2000 and the latest arrived in 2007.
The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
The GMC Yukon is a roomy, comfortable SUV that can provide a quiet ride to a large number of passengers. Unfortunately, the third row seating is inconvenient to deal with. Overall however, the Yukon does a nice job of filling the role of a full-size SUV.

J.D. Power gives the Yukon 5 stars for dependability. Problems with the last generation included failed blower motors, faulty manual transmissions, suspension noise, and rough idling. It was recalled 14 times. Expect below average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for three years or 36,000 miles.
Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:
The Yukon received perfect government crash test scores. IIHS results are not available. Anti-lock brakes, full side airbags, a rollover sensor, and stability and traction control come standard.
Pros and Cons:
Pros
+ Quiet
+ Smooth ride
+ Strong towing
Cons
- Mediocre gas mileage
- Awkward third-row seating
- Vague steering
Head-To-Head Competition:
The Chevrolet Trailblazer includes leather seats and has over 90 more hp, but lacks traction control and can't tow as much. The Jeep Grand Cherokee includes leather, a DVD player, CD changer, and a moonroof, but costs a few hundred more and can't tow as much. The Nissan Pathfinder includes a moonroof, CD changer, and leather, but has 30 less hp, and less towing capacity.
What Others Are Saying:
"So, for those of you who need, or want, a nice, big, sophisticated SUV, and a towing capacity of 7,700-lbs will meet your needs, take a look at these new GM products. We sure loved ours - for a week." - The Auto Channel
"They made a few mistakes. At a time when many competitors have solved the third row seating issue by folding the seats into the floor, leaving a flat load floor, Yukon's third row is bulky, heavy and manually operated. Once you haul the two 50 lb seat halves out of the vehicle and into your garage, you still have a load floor that is cluttered with seat tracks. You're going to have to cover the rear floor with a heavy mat so that your doggie won't get hurt on the hardware." - About.com
"So in about 1,000 miles covered over a week with the Yukon, it becomes pretty obvious that this is car can do everything you ask of it, and more, and you don't need to drive all the way to Canada to appreciate it." - L.A. Splash
