2008 Scion xD Review

2008 Scion xD Review The xD is a brand-new subcompact hatchback. It replaces the xA and is based on the Toyota Yaris platform. But with its muscular exterior, you’ll never mistake it for the Yaris.

The BuyingAdvice Team Says:

Subcompact hatchbacks are hot right now, and the Scion xD joins a long list of contenders. All in all, you might get more for your money from a Nissan Versa or a Honda Fit. The xD, however, packs in a lot of features for the money, especially in the safety department. And unlike the other guys, there’s no haggling with Scion. Considering that young people typically lose the negotiation game, this make the Scion a good pick for younger drivers.

What’s New For 2008:

The xD is all-new for 2008. It features a 1.8-L, 128-hp four-cylinder engine. In the rear are 60/40 fold-flat seats that can slide forward and back.

Pros and Cons:

Pros
+ Inexpensive

+ Hip

Cons
– Unproven reliability
– Costs than some leading competitors.
– Relatively small interior

Head-To-Head Competition:

The Chevrolet Aveo5 costs $2,500 less, but lacks ABS, power accessories, a CD player, and has 25 less hp. The 2007 Dodge Caliber SXT for $1,000 doesn’t even have ABS. The Kia Rio5 SX gets five more miles to the gallon for $800 less, but lacks power locks and windows, as well as ABS.

What Others Are Saying:

“A bumpy little car with a funky look and marginally engaging personality.”USA Today

“The Fit is more fuel-efficient, the Versa is more spacious, and the SX4 is more fun to drive — but if styling is your thing, the xA is definitely the best looking of the bunch.”About.com

“A tight little hatchback with a high coolness quotient”Business Week
