2008 Scion tC Review
The tC is a sports coupe that was first released in 2005, as a spiritual successor to the Toyota Celica and as part of Toyota’s more youth-geared Scion models. It’s the most conventional looking car in Scion’s lineup and is one of the most affordable sports coupes on the market. It was voted J.D. Power’s “Highest Ranked Sporty Car in Initial Quality” in 2005.

What is the Predicted Reliability:
J.D. Power ratings are not available. Problems include loose air vents, smelly exhaust, steering misalignment, and axle noise. The 2005-06 tCs were recalled for improperly assembled airbags and shattering wind deflectors. Expect above average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for three years or 36,000 miles.
Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:
The tC earned 4.5 stars in government frontal crash tests and 5 stars in side tests. IIHS scores are not available. Anti-lock brakes, front and side airbags and a driver’s knee airbag come standard.

Head-To-Head Competition:
The Hyundai Tiburon GS costs about the same but has about 23 less hp and lacks a moonroof. The MINI Cooper costs slightly more, and has a smaller engine with 40 less hp, but does weigh 500 pounds less resulting in better fuel economy. The Mitsubishi Eclipse GS costs over $2,000 more, has equivalent hp, but weighs more and lacks a moonroof.
