2007 Infiniti FX45 Review

2007 Infiniti FX45 Review The FX45 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV that first debuted in 2002. Touted as a “Bionic Cheetah,” the FX is designed for sporty on-road performance instead of rugged off-road duties. It was updated in 2006 with a new exterior, and a new interior featuring leather seats, power steering wheel, and a rearview camera.

The BuyingAdvice Team Says:

The Infiniti FX35 and its brother, the Infiniti FX45 are excellent vehicles for small families, and they’re just as fun to drive. Reliable, safe, and nimble, the Infiniti FX line is a great blend between SUV utility and sporty fun. While the FX45 is easily the superior of the two, you might find that the FX35 provides the sweet spot between cost and features.

What’s New For 2007:

What is the Predicted Reliability:

J.D. Power gives the FX 4 stars for overall mechanical quality. Problems affecting the FX include brake noise, cold starting problems, inaccurate fuel gauges, swelling radiator gaskets, and suspension noise. No recalls have been issued. Expect above average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for four years or 60,000 miles.

Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:

The FX earned perfect government crash tests. The IIHS gave it a “Good” rating in frontal tests and “Marginal” in rear tests. Anti-lock brakes, brake assist, full side airbags, tire-pressure monitoring, a rearview camera, and traction and stability control are standard. Land Departure Warning is optional.

Pros and Cons:

Pros
+ Powerful engine
+ Excellent handling
+ Good reliability record

Cons
– Poor value
– Lack of cargo space
– No third row

Head-To-Head Competition:

The Acura MDX costs $2,000 less, and adds navigation, a DVD player, a third row, moonroof, and better gas mileage. But it has a smaller, six-cylinder engine. The Audi Q7, at the same price, features a six-speed, DVD player, 30 more hp, and more payload capacity. The Land Rover LR3 costs $1,600 less and adds on a six-speed and more payload capacity.

What Others Are Saying:

“With the exception of the speeding ticket I received 10 minutes into my test drive, my experience with the new FX45 was quite good. Some of the minor complaints that I had with the previous model were addressed and some new features have been added to keep the FX at the front of the pack.”The Family Car

“In terms of off-road capability, the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz M-Class and Porsche Cayenne are better suited for the rough stuff than the FX. Infiniti designed the FX primarily for on-road performance, with an available all-wheel-drive system intended primarily for improved handling and performance in the snow. Its lighter chassis means less weight for its powerful engines to move, making it a comparatively better on-road performer.”CarsEverything.com

“When I dream of a crossover vehicle, it’s the FX45 that fills my heart. Part muscle car, part fashion statement, it projects the kind of athleticism and charm that I wish I could muster. And isn’t that what your daily driver should do?”About.com
