The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
The Dodge Magnum is something of an enigma. It’s a station wagon, which were more or less abandoned by Detroit in the ’90s. Not just a station wagon, a station wagon with attitude. A mean-looking speed demon that’s suitable for the entire family. Confused? Don’t be. The Magnum is a fun, innovative vehicle that proves Chrysler isn’t out of the game yet with substantial cargo space and an all-around competent ride.
What’s New For 2008:
What is the Predicted Reliability:

The basic warranty lasts for three years or 36,000 miles.

Head-To-Head Competition:
The Volkswagen Passat costs over a thousand more, has only a four-cylinder engine, but includes standard stability control, ABS and side airbags. The Mazda MAZDA6 Sport wagon costs about the same, but has over 20 more hp, and side airbags. The Toyota Matrix costs several thousand less, but has a four-cylinder with 60 less hp.
What Others Are Saying:
“It’ll be hard to justify the Magnum on the basis of utility — there are plenty of vehicles that will deliver more carrying capacity with better gas mileage. But how about fun per dollar per mile? The 2005 Dodge Magnum delivers on that made-up equation with a reasonable MSRP, high performance, comfort and gotta-have-it appeal. I just might have to clear some space in my garage.” – About.com
“The Dodge Magnum is a landmark car. There is no other car like it. When equipped with all-wheel drive, it will do almost anything an SUV will do, with distinctive style, more speed, better handling and better fuel mileage. The Magnum excels with its quiet cabin and smooth and solid ride. Its interior is well thought-out, and the underlying rear-wheel-drive design with a long wheelbase and short overhangs allows a lot of room inside.” – The New York Times
“In fact, the Magnum SRT-8 isn’t anywhere near as preposterous as it looks…If the Magnum SRT-8’s hot rod aesthetic makes you giggle, then consider adding it to your family car shopping list. It has enough depth of character to keep you smiling long after the laughter subsides. In any case, we should all give thanks to Chrysler for having the cojones to hire Hot Wheels collectors in their design department. After all, driving is easy. Comedy is hard.” – The Truth About Cars
