2008 Saturn VUE Review
The VUE is a compact CUV that was first introduced in 2002. In 2004, a Red Line performance variant was unveiled. For 2007, the interior and exterior were upgraded, and the Green Line Hybrid was introduced. The VUE is all-new for 2008.
The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
The new Saturn VUE is less of an update and more of a complete replacement. It’s much more refined than before, both from a styling and handling perspective, thanks to its European heritage. On the downside, it’s also much more expensive, taking away from its predecessor’s budget appeal. But overall, the VUE is a competent competitor, though it doesn’t do much to separate itself from the herd.
What’s New For 2008:
What is the Predicted Reliability:
J.D. Power information is not available. Problems with the first VUE include inaccurate fuel gauges, weak defrosters, and loose exhaust manifolds. It had one major recall for failing seatbelts. Expect above average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for three years or 36,000 miles.
Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:
The VUE earned perfect government crash test ratings, except for the frontal driver side, which earned 4 stars. It earned “Good” frontal scores in IIHS tests. Anti-lock brakes, full side airbags, active head restraints, and stability and traction control come standard.
Pros and Cons:
Pros
+ Much improved interior and handling
+ Elegant European styling
+ Full safety features
Cons
- More expensive than its predecessor
- Very similar to others on the market
- No dent-resistant body panels
Head-To-Head Competition:
The new VUE is very similar to others on the market. It costs about the same and has the same features as the Ford Escape XLT. It also matches up well to the Honda CR-V LX, except that the Honda has a five-speed automatic. It’s also very similar in price and features to the new Nissan Rogue.
What Others Are Saying:
“The new generation’s body goes crossover curvy, shedding its straight-laced body panels. It looks more car than truck, and that’s a welcome change.” – The Detroit News
“Overall, the Vue is fully competitive in its segment. And it’s no longer a shock to hear such a statement about a Saturn.” – Automobile Magazine
“For all its dynamic goodness, the Vue is let down by an as-tested price that is as hefty as its curb weight.” – Car and Driver
