J.D. Power gives the R-Class 3 stars for overall mechanical reliability and 4.5 stars for overall performance and design. The only reported issue is noisy power steering pumps. It’s been recalled three times for incorrect wiring, missing seat belt nuts, and loose accelerator pedals. Expect average to above-average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for four years or 50,000 miles.

Crash test scores are not available. Anti-lock brakes, tire-pressure monitoring, seatbelt pretensioners, front side airbags, active head restraints, and stability and traction control come standard.
