2008 Lincoln Mark LT Review

2008 Lincoln Mark LT Review The Mark LT is a luxury pickup truck that was introduced in 2006. Based on the Ford F-150, the Mark LT adds a number of luxurious features, such as captain’s chairs and chrome accents. It, along with the Cadillac Escalade EXT, make up the luxury pickup truck market.

The BuyingAdvice Team Says:

The Lincoln Mark LT takes the classic Ford F-Series and adds a number of luxury-themed features. But those features don’t add up to make the Mark LT all that distinct. If you were looking for the Cadillac of pickup trucks, you came to the wrong place. Fortunately for the Mark LT, it has far more utility than the Escalade EXT, thanks to its Ford underpinnings. But what it offers in utility, it lacks in luxury. While a luxury pickup truck may one day be a viable product, it just isn’t there yet.

What’s New For 2008:

A rearview camera is now available. SIRIUS satellite radio is now standard. Remote start is now available via Lincoln dealers.

What is the Predicted Reliability:

J.D. Power gives the Mark LT 3.5 stars in mechanical quality and 4.5 stars in performance and design. Problems with the Mark LT include transmission issues, rear axle shuddering and steering noise. It’s been recalled twice for a software error and ungreased wiper motors. Expect above average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for four years or 50,000 miles.

Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:

The Mark LT earned 5 stars in government frontal crash tests. Other data is unavailable. Anti-lock brakes come standard.

Pros and Cons:

Pros
+ Upscale look
+ Reliable
+ Nice warranty

Cons
- Too close to the F-150
- Passable luxury
- Key safety features unavailable

Head-To-Head Competition:

The only other truly similar competitor to the Mark LT is the Cadillac Escalade EXT. The EXT features standard 4WD, navigation, a DVD player, side airbags and 100 more hp, but costs several thousand more. You might also consider the Hummer H2 SUT, with standard 4WD, extra payload capacity and over 20 more hp, but it too costs several thousand more. Of course, the Ford F-150 is the same truck, for less money, without all the cosmetic, luxury features.

What Others Are Saying:

“The Lincoln Mark LT offers an eye-catching exterior and all of the utility of a Ford F-150, but is a little short on luxury.”Forbes

“But the Mark LT fails to provide all the distinction and accouterment expected in a luxury vehicle. Lincoln hustled it into production in just 18 months and was mostly limited to features already in production for the F-150. Thus you can’t get side-impact air bags, traction control, anti-skid control… navigation system or full-time all-wheel drive because the F-150 doesn’t offer those.”USA TODAY

“OK, so Lincoln didn’t exactly ‘create’ the Mark LT. They took a Lariat, put their ‘mark’ on it and didn’t screw it up. While that’s not the highest praise ever afforded a modern Lincoln, it’s not the worst criticism either.”The Truth About Cars
