2007 Dodge Ram 2500 Review
The Dodge Ram is a full-size pickup truck that became an instant hit when it debuted in 1994. Like any good domestic pickup truck, numerous versions have emerged. The heavy-duty was last updated in 2003. The Power Wagon, an off-road variant of the 2500, was released in 2005. A Mega Cab was released for 2006. It's been named "2006 Truck of the Year" by Four Wheeler and 4-Wheel and Off-Road, Truckin's "Truck of the Year," and Motor Trend's "Truck of the Year" for 1994 and 2003.
The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
The Dodge Ram 2500 is a tough truck, with a tough price to beat. Under its stylish, aggressive exterior lies a machine with powerful towing capacity. Its reliability record is less than stellar, but it's still a great truck for the price.

What is the Predicted Reliability:
J.D. Power gives the 2500 3.5 stars for overall design quality, and 3 stars for overall performance and design. The original Ram had issues with air conditioning, nonfunctional transmissions, problematic shifting, brake wear, failing ABS, engine misfires, engine surges, noisy suspensions, and transmission leaks. It was recalled over 30 (!) times. The current Ram has had issues with air conditioning, buzzing speakers, autonomous locks, dented hoods, rough idling, loose seats, steering noise, and water leaks. It has been recalled eight times since 2002. Expect well-below average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for three years or 36,000 miles.
Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:
Crash test scores are not available, but the 1500 earned five stars in government frontal crash tests. The IIHS gave it a "Good" rating for front tests and "Poor" for rear tests. Anti-lock brakes are standard, but side airbags are optional. The Laramie includes power-adjustable pedals, but they're optional on the SLT.
Pros and Cons:

+ Well-priced
+ Stylish
Cons
- Horrible reliability
- Few safety options
- Small interior
Head-To-Head Competition:
The 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty includes standard 4WD, but costs over $8,000 more and has 45 less hp. The 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with an extended cab costs as much, but lacks the 2500's payload capacity and has 50 less hp. The Nissan Titan, at 500 more, can't compare with the 2500's hauling power or horsepower.
What Others Are Saying:
"If I owned a ranch, worked in the mining or oil industry prospecting remote locations, or controlled a vast forest system this is the vehicle I'd want. It is capable of going anywhere, anytime, and would look great arriving at any private country club - providing there were stepladders for my lady to descend without soiling her dress. Better yet, have your lady wear blue jeans, a fashion match to this rugged, strong, handsome truck." - The Auto Channel
"The Dodge Ram offers big power and big capabilities. It's responsive and comfortable as an every day driver and it's ready to do some serious work when called upon. Ram's distinctive styling makes it stand out in a rapidly improving field." - Automotive.com
"So with this, we conclude our long-term test of the Ram 2500. Our yearlong experience has left a positive impression on us, and we can honestly say that the Cummins-powered Ram 2500 is a truck we'd spend our money on. Turns out, the Ram is a powerful animal with a surprising amount of manners." - Four Wheeler
