2007 Dodge Dakota Review The Dakota is a midsize truck that debuted in 1987. Rare for its class, it's available with a V8. The second generation was released in 1997. The third and current generation debuted for 2005.

What is the Predicted Reliability:

J.D. Power gives the Dakota 3 stars for overall mechanical reliability, 3.5 stars for overall design quality, and 2 stars for overall performance and design. Problems with the last generation include engine misfires and noise, rough idling, steering noise, suspension noise, and water leaks. It was recalled 16 times. Problems with the current generation include engine noise, difficulty backing up, and transmission leaks. It's been recalled four times for improperly tightened side airbags, transmissions that can't shift into park, electrical malfunctions, and locking brakes. Expect below average to average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for three years or 36,000 miles.


Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:

The Dakota earned 4.5 stars in government frontal tests and 5 stars in side tests. In IIHS tests, it earned "Acceptable" for the front and "Poor" for the rear. Rear anti-lock brakes are standard. Side airbags and four-wheel ABS are optional.
