2008 Cadillac XLR-V Review
The XLR is a luxury roadster furnished with a powered hard-top which debuted in 2004. The XLR-V debuted in 2006 as the high performance trim featuring a hand-built engine, firmer suspension and better brakes. The XLR-V is the fastest Cadillac built to date. All trims of the XLR are based on the same underpinnings as the Corvette and are assembled in the same location.
The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
The Cadillac XLR-V is no doubt an impressive beast. It’s arguably the most impressive mode they’ve ever produced. But what kills the deal is its extravagant price, which puts it in the upper ranks of Porsche, Mercedes and Jaguar. Its interior is unimpressive, in light of our expectations for a six-figure vehicle. No doubt it’s in need of some revisions, but the XLR-V is at its heart a great ride that’s unfortunately weighed down by some serious pricing issues.

Head-To-Head Competition:
The BMW M6 has a larger 10-cylinder engine with almost 60 more hp, but costs several thousand more, lacks a standard automatic, and gets up to four fewer miles to the gallon. The Jaguar XK R convertible costs a few thousand less, but has about 20 less hp. The Mercedes-Benz SL Class 550 costs a little less, but has 60 less hp and lacks a DVD player.
What Others Are Saying:
“Cadillac should have priced the XLR-V lower or pulled-out all the stops and built a world beater. They did neither and paid the price. (Which is more than you can say for their potential consumers.) That said, I can understand those few hundred people who bought an XLR-V. It’s another GM ‘almost car,’ but it IS a Cadillac.” – The Truth About Cars
“Cadillac has priced the car to say ‘Hey! Here we are!’ as much as for profits. In terms of performance, the XLR-V merits its steep sticker price. Six figures is a tall order, however, for a car that lacks the cachet, history, and gorgeous interior of a Jaguar XK or a Mercered-Benz SL. So, the answer is: Not quite. But drop in a more stylish cockpit and give it a few years-then ask us again.” – Automobile Magazine
“The 2007 Cadillac XLR-V is not only the best Cadillac on the market today, it may be the best car built in America, period.” – The Detroit News
