2008 Cadillac XLR Review The XLR is a luxury roadster furnished with a powered hard-top which debuted in 2004. It’s based on the same structure as the Corvette and is built alongside it in Bowling Green, KY. A high-performance XLR-V debuted in 2006, which was at the time the fastest production Cadillac ever. It was nominated for “North American Car of the Year” in 2004.

The Cadillac XLR is an almost impressive blend of Cadillac luxury with Corvette performance. Unfortunately, it’s lacking a little in both departments and is easily matched by cheaper luxury cars. If looks could kill, the XLR would be nearly on top. Unfortunately, that’s not the only attribute to judge a luxury sports car by.


What’s New For 2008:

A heated steering wheel is now standard. The shock damping and Magnetic Ride Control System have been upgraded. Debuting for 2008 is the Alpine White Limited Edition, with chrome trim.

What is the Predicted Reliability:

J.D. Power information is not available. Problems include inaccurate fuel gauges, oil leaks and damaged electrical connectors. It’s been recalled three times for pedal spring failure, fracturing washers and boiling brake fluid. Expect above average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for four years or 50,000 miles.

Crash test scores are not available. Anti-lock brakes, side airbags, parking sensors, run-flat tires and stability control are standard.

The Audi S4 cabriolet costs much, much less, and adds standard AWD, but lacks navigation. The Mercendes-Benz SLK-Class costs several thousand less, and has a larger engine with 30 more hp, but gets four fewer miles to the gallon and lacks a CD changer. The BMW 6 Series has 40 more hp, but costs a few thousand more and lacks a CD player.
