2008 Audi TT Review

2008 Audi TT Review The TT is a sports car that was first introduced in 2000. Originally a two-door coupe based on the 1995 concept model, a roadster model was introduced for 2001. It’s named after the Tourist Trophy, a 1905 European race. After being put on hiatus for 2007, a brand new model debuts for 2008.

The BuyingAdvice Team Says:

The Audi TT is one of the sleekest looking vehicles out there. While it delivers a comfortable interior and good handling, it fails in several other aspects. Its performance and features are easily outclassed by cheaper vehicles, and some of its interior controls are infuriatingly misplaced. While it shows a solid improvement over the last generation, other competitors can give the TT a run for the money.

What’s New For 2008:

The TT is all-new for 2008. It’s quite a bit larger than the previous TT, but thanks to aluminum, it weighs less than its predecessor. The exterior has been redesigned, and a brand-new four-cylinder engine has been added.

What is the Predicted Reliability:

J.D. Power data is not yet available. Problems with the previous model include noisy speakers, coolant leaks, engine noise, rough idling and suspension problems. It was recalled three times for instability, fuel leaks and loss of control. Expect average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for four years or 50,000 miles.

Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:

Crash test scores are not yet available. Anti-lock brakes, side airbags, front knee airbags, tire-pressure monitoring and stability and traction control come standard.

Pros and Cons:

Pros
+ Tight handling
+ Comfortable interior
+ Sleek look

Cons
- Some poorly positioned controls
- Options can get costly
- Safety ratings not yet available

Head-To-Head Competition:

The BMW 3 Series 328i coupe has a V6 with 30 more hp and a moonroof, but lacks leather. The Chrysler Sebring Touring convertible costs $6,000 less, has a larger engine, as well as a CD and DVD player. But the TT has traction control, leather seats and gets up to five more miles to the gallon. The Infiniti G35 Coupe costs over $3,000 less, has a V6 with 75 more hp, and a CD changer. However, the TT gets up to six more miles to the gallon.

What Others Are Saying:

“By mid-afternoon we were home, having covered 336 miles on our TT International Tour, more than enough to come to some sunny and solid conclusions. While the original TT was a dynamic disappointment, Audi has learned its lesson and made nice with the new car. It has not just looks and style but the anytime-anywhere acceleration, cornering and braking that finally make the TT as delightful to drive as to look at.”The New York Times

“The cockpit is an interesting mix of good and bad. The flat-bottom steering wheel is out of place (after all, this isn’t a Le Mans racer); the air-conditioning controls are impossible to reach when the shift lever is in first, third, or fifth; and the small-screen navigation system is still CD-driven, not DVD. Nice touches include the clearly legible instruments, the comfortable and supportive seats, and the five round air vents. Build quality is exceptional.”Automobile Magazine

“Shortcomings aside, the TT is far from an all-show, no-go machine. It looks good, feels genuinely luxurious and is plenty quick enough to show the driver and passenger a good time.” – Forbes
