2007 Audi S4 Review

The S4 is the sporty variant of the (Audi A4), first introduced in 2000. After a 2003 hiatus, it returned with a 340-hp V8 engine. It was restyled in 2005. It's available as a sedan, hatchback, or convertible.

The Audi S4 combines the safety and reliability of a good family car with the performance of a jet engine. A full list of safety features and plenty of cargo room round out the package. With its three body styles and standard AWD, the S4 is a jack of all trades.

What's New For 2007:

New standard equipment includes a sunroof, MP3 compatible CD changer, and 20-inch wheels. The convertible has been revised with a new, quieter top. Free maintenance is no longer offered.

What is the Predicted Reliability:

J.D. Power ratings are not available. Problems with the S4 include coolant leaks, water leaks, and hard starting. It was recalled once in 2003-04 for degrading xenon coating. Expect above average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for four years or 50,000 miles.

Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:

The S4 earned 4 stars in government frontal crash tests and 4.5 stars in side tests. IIHS tests are not available. Anti-lock brakes, full side airbags, and stability and traction control are standard. Rear side airbags are optional.

The Volvo V70 costs $6,500 less and has three times the cargo capacity, but has a smaller engine with 40 less hp and lacks a CD changer.
