2008 Dodge Ram 2500 Review
The Ram has been on the market as a full-size pickup truck since 1994. The 2500 is a heavy-duty variant capable of towing over 13,000 pounds. A quad cab debuted in 1998, and the second generation followed in 2002, with the heavy duty versions following in 2003. A Mega Cab version was released in 2006. That year, it was voted "4x4 of the Year" by 4wheel and Off-Road, and "Pickup Truck of the Year" by Four Wheeler.
The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
The Dodge Ram 2500 offers a number of options and adds style to this workhorse of a segment. However, it loses against others in power and price. As usual, Dodge offers some unique options, but there are better alternatives.

Government crash test scores are not available. In IIHS tests, the 1500 scored a "Good" for the front, and "Poor" for the rear. Anti-lock brakes are standard. The Laramie includes adjustable pedals and stability control, which are optional on the SLT. Side airbags are optional across the line.
Pros and Cons:
Pros
+ Cool styling
+ Several body styles
+ Comfortable
Cons
- More expensive than competitors
- Not as powerful as others in its class
- Lousy reliability
Head-To-Head Competition:
The Ford F-250 SD costs several thousand less. The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD can haul and tow much more at the same price. The GMC Sierra 2500HD compares similarly to the Silverado.
What Others Are Saying:
"The Dodge Ram HD Mega Cab is designed to be the flagship of the heavy haulers. The Ram Quad Cab may be big, but the Mega Cab is bigger. It has the power and weight to tow heavy loads for long distances. And there is comfort for passengers in the process." - The New York Times
"Among big pickup trucks, this is the luxury liner." - BusinessWeek
"The Mega Cab is immense. Don't even think about using it as the family hauler. You'll have an impossible time at the Wal-Mart. If you manage to get it into a normal-size parking slot, you'll never get it out. However, it makes an ideal mobile office. It's capable enough to handle most roads and non-roads yet comfortable enough to transport the family after work." - About.com
