Credit scores generally range from the mid 300s to the mid 800s. Below is a list showing how your FICO score converts into a general rating:
Above 730 = Excellent credit
700 - 729 = Good credit
670 - 699 = Fair credit
585 - 669 = Higher risk
Below 585 = Poor credit.
What if I don't know my FICO score?
Generally speaking excellent credit means that you have a number of monthly bills such as credit cards, utility bills, phone bills, and mortgage. You must also not have any late payments recorded on your credit history in recent years. If you have doubts about this then most likely your score is less than excellent. If there is a history of late payments you are aware about or if you are just starting out with your credit history, then you are better off selecting a lower self rating.
Remember, the better you can assess your credit history, the better are your chances of getting a lender's offer that best suits your needs.
