2008 Chevrolet Avalanche Review

2008 Chevrolet Avalanche Review The Avalanche is a unique pickup/SUV hybrid that debuted in 2002. It features a folding midgate, folding rear seat, and folding panels for conversion between a truck and an SUV. Originally, plastic body cladding came standard, but it was made optional in 2003 due to public and executive demand. The second generation debuted in 2007 with a more aerodynamic design, built on a new SUV platform shared with the Chevy Tahoe. It was voted Motor Trend's "Truck of the Year" in 2003. The AWD version can run on gasoline or E85 ethanol-based Flex-fuel.

The BuyingAdvice Team Says:

The Chevrolet Avalanche is a one of a kind vehicle. There have been many spin-offs and imitators, but none have matched its combination of comfort and power. However, it's also a bit of a niche vehicle, and is arguably a jack of all trades that masters none. You might find yourself served better by a regular truck or SUV. However, if you desire maximum flexibility for cargo and passengers, or you're an outdoor enthusiast, the Avalanche deserves serious attention.

What's New For 2008:

Side airbags and XM radio are now standard. The LT now comes with OnStar navigation. Three trims are available: LS, LT, and LTZ.

The Cadillac Escalade EXT( is based on the Avalanche, though it's not really in the same class. It costs significantly more, about $20,000 more, but includes 80 more hp, 4WD, navigation, and a number of luxury accompaniments. The Honda Ridgeline isn't a crossover, but it does provide carlike comfort in truck body.
