2007 Suzuki SX4 Review
The SX4 is an all-new small CUV. Like all Suzukis, it comes with standard all-wheel drive. It’s also the least expensive AWD vehicle in America. The SX4 brings the utility of an SUV down to a compact car price.
The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
The budget car market is growing ever larger. Fortunately, the Suzuki SX4 brings a lot to this segment. It’s the only budget car with standard AWD, and is even available with stability control. For the price, the feature set cannot be beat. If you can forgive its somewhat poor gas mileage, then the SX4 is a great car for the money.
What’s New For 2007:
What is the Predicted Reliability:
J.D. Power gives 2.5 stars for overall mechanical quality and 3 for overall design quality. The only reported problem so far has been non-activated tire pressure sensors. We predict average to above average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for three years or 36,000 miles.
Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:
Crash test scores are not available. Anti-lock brakes, front side airbags, rear side head airbags, and a tire pressure monitor come standard. The Sport includes stability control.
Pros and Cons:
Pros
+ Exceptional value
+ Standard AWD
+ Available stability control
Cons
– Smallish interior
– Mediocre fuel economy
– Rough ride
Head-To-Head Competition:
In terms of value, the SX4 is hard to beat. It costs $700 less than the Dodge Caliber and adds standard ABS and AWD. The Kia Rio5 costs $1,200 less, has more cargo space, and gets five more miles to the gallon. But it lacks ABS, AWD, and power accessories. The Nissan Versa adds a CD changer and more cargo room, but lacks AWD, ABS, and about 20 hp.
What Others Are Saying:
“Lousy gas mileage notwithstanding, I really liked the SX4. I hauled kids, adults and even a bit of Ikea furniture in the SX4; it truly met all of my needs. I like the simple, easy-to-use controls and the fact it’s loaded with safety kit. Being a dyed-in-the-wool cheapskate, I loved the SX4’s price tag.” – About.com
“Suzuki has regularly represented good value. The company’s dedication to offering the most bang for the buck has rarely wavered. With a 100,000-mile/seven-year powertrain limited warranty to tack on to the value, there’s even more bang.” – The Auto Channel
“For roughly the same money as a Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit or Nissan Versa, the Suzuki SX4 provides a larger, more powerful wagon – “crossover” with AWD, distinctive styling and hoonery. If Suzuki creates more driver friendly vehicles like the SX4, they’ll finally be building a brand worth remembering.” – The Truth About Cars
