2007 Mercury Milan Review

The Milan is a mid-size near-luxury car that debuted in 2006. It was intended as a replacement for the then-discontinued (Mercury Sable). The Milan, unlike most of Mercury’s lineup, is designed to appeal to a younger audience. Based on an enlarged Mazda6 platform, the Milan is Mercury’s most affordable model.

The Mercury Milanis the company’s most promising new model in several years. While its 2006 model was rather humble, the additional safety features added for this year bring it up to par. While it’s a bit more expensive overall than its mechanical twin, the (Ford Fusion), and its cousin, the Mazda6, it beats both in looks. However, other models in this category will provide an overall better value.

What’s New For 2007:

A number of features have been added for 2007. Auxiliary audio inputs, a folding passenger seat, full side airbags, anti-lock brakes, and traction control are now standard on V6 models. AWD is now optional on V6 models.

What is the Predicted Reliability:

J.D. Power gives the Milan 5 stars for overall mechanical quality. Problems with the Milan include transmission issues and power steering leaks. No recalls have been issued. Expect above average reliability.

Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:

The Milan earned 4 stars in government frontal crash tests and 4.5 stars in side tests. The IIHS gave it “Good” scores in front and side tests and “Acceptable” in rear tests. Anti-lock brakes and full side airbags come standard. Milans with a V6 engine feature traction control.

Head-To-Head Competition:

The Chrysler Sebring costs $600 less and comes standard with an automatic transmission. The 2008 Dodge Avenger SXT is also very similar and costs the same as the Milan, but comes standard with an automatic transmission. The mechanically similar Mazda MAZDA6 costs the same, but comes with standard traction control.
