2007 Audi RS4 Review
The RS4 is a new ultra-high performance version of the Audi A4. Designed by Audi’s performance division, and featuring technology from the R8 race car, it’s easily one of their most exciting new models. It looks very similar to the Audi S4, but with a bit more external flair. Underneath, however, the RS4 packs more punch than anything else in the A4 lineup.
The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
Once again, Audi delivers superior performance with an understated appearance in the Audi RS4. It’s not the cheapest of its kind, or the lightest, but it features an incredible amount of power combined with superior handling. For Audi fans, it hits the sweet spot between price and performance.
What’s New For 2007:
What is the Predicted Reliability:
Reliability data is not yet available. No technical service bulletins or recalls have been issued yet. Audi reliability tends to be quite good, even in the first years, and is typically much better than its parent Volkswagen. Expect above-average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for four years or 50,000 miles.
Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:
Crash test scores are not available. Anti-lock brakes, brake assist, full head curtain side airbags, and stability control come standard.
Pros and Cons:
Pros
+ Powerful engine
+ Standard AWD
+ Excellent handling
Cons
– Pricey for its class
– Extremely heavy
– Unknown crashworthiness
Head-To-Head Competition:
The BMW M3 costs about $17,000 less, and gets somewhat better gas mileage, however, it only has 333 hp compared to the RS4’s 420. The 2008 Cadillac CTS can be had for much cheaper, but even fully decked out it can’t match the RS4’s 420-hp engine. If you like the RS4, but it’s just a bit out of your price range, then its younger sibling, the Audi S4, is just right for you. While it has about 80 fewer horses, it also costs nearly $19,000 less.
What Others Are Saying:
“Buy a Toyota Prius and you get a backup camera, keyless ignition, iPod integration and travel over 50 miles for every gallon of gas poured therein. Buy an Audi RS4 and you don’t even get self-dimming mirrors, and you can only drive 11 miles per gallon of dead dinos (EPA notwithstanding). The Prius will set you back $25k. The RS4 costs three Prii.” – The Truth About Cars
“Audi’s beloved A4 line has a new flagship with more power than a Corvette.” – Forbes
“So, yes, Audi’s new whiz-bang rocket ship isn’t perfect. That’s part of its charm. You’re willing to write off its faults as the price of such asinine, iconic fun. Tear down a winding road, with pavement ripping into pieces under your right foot, and all is forgiven. The RS4 is Audi taking chances. It’s special. It has soul.” – Automobile Magazine
