2008 Audi Q7 Review
The Q7 is a large luxury CUV that debuted in 2007. It’s based on the Volkswagen Touareg, but has a longer wheelbase to accompany a third-row seat. While late to the SUV party, it offers a lot of power and luxury, just like you’d expect from an Audi.
The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
The Audi Q7 is a good value in its class, but other than that, doesn’t bring anything new to the field. Its performance and gas mileage are hampered by its hefty curb weight, and the third row is a tight fit. There are better options, but if you insist on a luxury nameplate, the Q7 is a relatively economical choice.

What is the Predicted Reliability:
Reliability information is not available, but it should fare similarly to the Touareg. J.D. Power gives the Touareg 2 stars for dependability. Problems with the original include malfunctioning rain sensors, sagging suspensions, harsh shifting, wiring problems, dead batteries, and faulty door handles. It was recalled three times for insufficiently riveted seatbelt attachments, improperly wired tire pressure monitors, and improperly secured child restraints. Expect below average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for four years or 50,000 miles.
Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:
The Q7 earned perfect government crash test scores. IIHS results are not available. Anti-lock brakes, brake assist, hill descent control, tire-pressure monitor, full side airbags, and stability control come standard. Audi’s Side Assist is optional, and warns the driver when another vehicle has entered his blind spot.
Pros and Cons:
Pros
+ Comfortable
+ Excellent fit and finish
+ Standard AWD
Cons
- Cramped third row
- Need premium fuel
- Poor acceleration and gas mileage
Head-To-Head Competition:
The BMW X5 costs several thousand more, has a smaller engine, and lacks a DVD player. The Land Rover LR3 has a standard V8 and a moonroof, but costs several thousand more and lacks a DVD player. The Porsche Cayenne can tow more, but costs several hundred more and lacks a DVD player.
What Others Are Saying:
“Terrifically tempting alternative to mainstream crosssovers if driving feel and a luxury nameplate are more important than features and convenience – all assuming you stick to the base 3.6 Q7 and ignore the pricey 3.6 Premium and 4.2 versions.” – USA Today
“The Q7 is a worthy addition to the premium mid-size SUV field, but it would have made a bigger splash if introduced a few years ago.” – Chicago Sun-Times
“Q7 buyers will be image-conscious people who are too image-conscious to buy a BMW X5 or Mercedes GL because they don’t want people to think they are image-conscious.” – The Truth About Cars
